The International Community Outreach Program (ICOP) receives funding from the John Molson Graduate Students’ Association (JMGSA) to send interns abroad.

Locations: Columbia and Uganda

Historically, $2000 has been awarded per student.  The amount is released only upon fulfilling specific requirements set by ICOP.

" I can say without a doubt that the 3 months I spent in Uganda were the best summer days of my life! I can’t thank ICOP enough to have given me this humbling opportunity. For a culturally open-minded Indian as me, to work with two Canadian interns and three Ugandan interns was an experience of a lifetime."

Past Projects

Business development

Development of a solar energy distribution network and revolving credit system targeted at Ugandan farmers. The monthly fuel costs saved was invested on improved farming tools or small businesses.

Legal Services

Providing legal services to under-served residents of Lima, Peru.

Product Management

Market development and business case support for a small-scale water filtration system targeted at women in Mbale, Uganda. The project helped the local community avoid water-borne diseases.

ICOP started its partnership with CEDESOCIAL, Colombia in 2014. The first ICOP Case Competition (Spring 2015) involved finding creative sources of funds to finance the operations of the CEDESOCIAL (Centro de Desarrollo Social). In the summer of 2015, M.Sc. student Chaïm Kuhnreich went to Barranquilla for a 4 month internship in order to develop and implement a new fundraising strategy inspired by those student proposals.
